Since I purchased the car, I have made a few improvements & changes. Since the competition runs through the summer, I've made the modification period to be the time between summers (say Nov. through Mar. at least for now. Philly and others have events through the winter, but I'd rather freeze my butt off in a cold garage than out in the middle of a parking lot):

Well... I have debated it for a long time and now I have decided that the car must go. This has been a fun project and I wish that I could see it thru. I know that this car will some day be competitive, but I don't have the money to continue the project and really don't forsee that situation changing anytime soon. I ran the car in FP before I knew that you can run it in DP. It will be more competitive in DP because you can make it even lighter. (I believe 1700#) It weighs right at 1900# now which is the minimum for FP. I also misread the rules and it has 13x10 wheels which are the wrong size. they are mounted with 20x9x13 Hoosier 43180's You are only allowed 7's, I still have the stock wheels which are 14x6 (i think)
The car: '85 Toyota MR2 (the engine came from an '86) The car is totally stripped. The engine was rebuilt about 2 years ago and has roughly 250 autocross miles on it. when I rebuilt the engine I was planning to run stock and therefore built it OEM. Kirkey intermediate racing seat. 5-point harness. custom braided brake lines with dual proportioning valves (adjust back and front seperately) Ground Control coil-over kit with Eibach springs (spring rates: front:300 / rear:450) Suspension Tech anti-sway bar (front: 21mm) custom strut brace custom exhaust with Supertrapp lexans side windows and I have enough lexan for the rear, just never got around to it. the windshield should be replaced with lexan as well, it was on the list. it has a Crane Fire Ball HI2000 with PS92 coil custom 8.8 plug wires I have the complete dash and rear bumper. just in case someone wants to setup it up for ITA. The car currently needs a new front oil seal. that's why I am selling it cheap.
here are some pics from 2002 nationals... http://lonestar.texas.net/~dragon/mr2/natpic1.jpg http://lonestar.texas.net/~dragon/mr2/natpic2.jpg
the trailer is also for sale: 18', solid steel deck, 2' beaver, rear slide out ramps, 2" bulldog dual 3500# axles with brake on back axle, fressh coat of paint last fall, bearing buddies on all hubs the trailer has tie downs recessed into the deck spcifically setup for the MR2. I have some ramp extensions that I made for loading the car. not pretty, but functional.
I would like to get some where close to $3000 for the set. minimum $1500 for the trailer negotiate the rest.

Wooden ramp extensions for loading the car (low clearance).
I am asking $4000 which is what I have in it all. The prices of the race components added to the car and trailer total this without the car which seems fair for an entirely set up and ready to go package. I am considering going to a stock class.
2004-2005
- Winter 2004, purchased used Momo seats & installed in early 2005 along with belts. Being able to seat two people is important to advancing one's autocrossing skills.
- Fixed a strange idle-bounce issue with the engine. Somewhere along the line, somebody had remove the Auxiliary Air Valve (AAV) coolant feed from the throttle body. Well, after much testing and head scratching I discovered the AAV is "open" when cold, and only closes once the coolant becomes warm and closes the valve. Thus the engine essentially had a huge vacuum leak when warm. I also suspect that during the 2005 NeDiv, the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) went bad because the egine "fell-on-its-face" as I was driving to pre-stage the second day of the event, and later checks indicated that it was out of spec.
2005-2006
- Purchased a set of used Keizer 13x9 wheels. Although 7" is the max wheel width allowed in DP with no penalty, up to a 10" wide rim can be used with a weight penalty assesment (2005-75lbs), so I may do some tests with these wheels.
- Drilled/slotted rotors, race brake pads
- New rear sway bar
- Replace suspension bushings with poly bushings
- Replace driver side front strut rod due to fracked threads
- Replace strut inserts (shocks) with Koni adjustables
- Replace steering wheel with smaller MOMO wheel and shifter knob with blingie ball. These are on probation. The wheel stays, the knob has been replaced with small screw on aluminum ball.
- Replace sway bar end links with rod-end bars
- Replace oil & filter and transaxle fluid with Amsoil synth fluids
- Install solid brass shifter bushings
- Purchase a used set of Hoosier 22x9 tires and mounted on Keizer wheels
- Homebrew alignment. Worked ok, but better tools would make it easier.
- camber: about max f/r, caster 5l/4.5r, toe 1/16if;1/32or
- specs camberr:-2f/-1.5r caster:+6 toe:1/8of,1/16or
- pro sepcs: camber: max f/-1.5r caster:max toe:1/16-1/8of,1/8ir
- 10/20/06: adj align: toe: smidge fo/smidge ri
2006-2007
- C52 w/LSD and new clutch/flywheel as a minimum are planned
- possible headers
- could do carbs, maybe cams? or wait for new motor
- shorter springs, RCA blocks
- replace spoiler
